[PUBLIC] Guidelines for reopening

Overview

In alignment with guidelines from state and health authorities and best practices from around the world, this document provides a tiered approach to re-opening the Student Recreation Center (STRC). It begins with the strictest policies and guidelines in-place and transitions to a gradual phase-out of restrictions. An important note to consider given the fluidity of the pandemic, is that this document must not be treated linearly. There may come a time where the department needs to revert to a stricter phase given the circumstances at-hand or even government restrictions.

Phase I

Phase I will focus on preparations for re-opening and the initial stages.

Policies

  • Facility entry limited to 25% and/or 30 occupants at a time (including staff).
    • Access the facility by reservation only.
      • Online reservation process through Fusion.
        • Time slots are 1.25 hours long.
        • Concurrent sessions (i.e. back-to-back) prohibited.
        • Slots will be forfeited 15 minutes after start time.
        • Members with two forfeited slots will be suspended from further reservations.
      • Members only – no day passes/guests.
    • All occupants will…
      • be screened for temperature and symptoms prior to entry.
      • use hand sanitizer prior to entry.
      • be required to wear face masks.
        • Participants using cardio equipment may choose to remove face mask if enough spacing is available.
      • maintain social distancing recommendations.
    • Building flow will be tightly managed to facilitate distancing.
    • No external reservations permitted.
  • Stricter dress code for participants.
    • Clothing must cover skin that may come in to contact with equipment.
    • Policies that are generally in practice at other facilities prior to pandemic.
  • At a minimum, staff will wash hands every hour or more frequently as required when shifting between tasks.
  • Close-contact recreation will remain closed.
    • Gymnasium will be closed off except as a walkway to provide adequate distancing of participants leaving.
  • Locker rooms
    • Showers and changing area will be inaccessible.
  • Water fountains will be turned off.
  • Participants will be required to clean their own equipment before and after use.
  • Failure to follow Rec. Sports policies may lead to suspension.

Exercise Recommendations

In alignment with many agencies, the following exercise recommendations must be followed:

  • No exercising that requires spotting.
  • Some machines/equipment may be blocked from usage to promote increased exercise distancing; i.e. 10 feet or more.
  • Supersetting and giant sets are prohibited.
    • This is when a participant does one exercise, then immediately moves to different equipment to do another exercise before returning to the first.
    • Some circuit-style workouts may be possible in the correct conditions.
      • Example: patron using three different types of equipment in an outdoor/large, open area. The equipment is clearly limited to their area and can be cleaned before another patron accidentally uses it.
  • GroupX program will continue virtually only.
  • Equipment will not be available for check-out.
    • Participants may continue to bring small bags in and use their own equipment, but it must be tightly managed by that patron.
  • Towel service will be suspended.

Cleaning

  • There will be a 10-15 minute window between each group of participants allowed in the facility.
    • During this time, staff will clean high-touch areas and wipe down used equipment.
  • Participants will be required to clean their own equipment before and after use.
    • Single-use wipe stations and bins will be placed throughout facility.
  • There will be a one-hour break each week day to allow for deeper cleaning and staff re-gathering.

Phase II

Phase II will begin the process for loosening restrictions.

Key Indicators for Phase II Implementation

  • Consistent, or reduction in reported, confirmed positive cases.
  • Recommendation from governmental sources.

  • Staffing element is clearly present and prepared to loosen restrictions.
